The Cross Country Race

On Thursday it was Cross Country. Lots of parents were there. Even my Mum was there. She had brought me a Fanta and chocolate brownie from Ka Pie.
Soon it was the year five boys race then it would be the year four girls’ turn. I had butterflies in my stomach. Then SMACK! All the girls went zooming off like a rocket. I heard people cheering for me and the others. It was very tiring when we went up the stairs that led us to the adventure playground. Next we went down the hill that led us to the front field. Finally I had done it. I don’t know what number I came but I did deserve a bottle of Fanta and a chocolate brownie.
Mmmm. That chocolate brownie and the Fanta tasted good. In fact I can taste it right now. I loved the Cross Country. It was awesome. And I think that everybody did well in the race.

Kangaroos

Kangaroos are larsge animals that live in Australia.
The large father kangaroos are the boss of the mob. If a different male kangaroo tries to be the boss of the mob, the real boss pf the mob and the male kangaroo start to fight with their sharp claws.
Baby kangaroos are called joeys.Whan a newborn is born they are as small as a jelly bean. When the babies are five months old they can hop out of their mother's pouch. If a baby hops too far away from its mother it is not safe so the mother calls to the baby. The baby will come back.

The Wreck of the Delaware

One day, many, many years ago there lived a woman called Huria Matenga. And she had a husband called Hemi. One night Huria was woken by a loud crash and thump and the wind howling like a wolf. The next day it was still stormy so Huria went to the beach to look out for danger. She got a shock at what she saw. She saw a boat struggling to find its way out of the storm.

One person on the boat volunteered to swim and it was Henry Squirrell. He tied a rope around his waist and dived in the water but the sea was so, so strong that a wave picked him up and the wave smashed him on a rock. The sailors hauled him up on the boat. At last Huria and her husband ran and they ran. Finally they were at the start of the water. Suddenly they heard the people on the boat saying, “Help us.” They dived in the water and they went to the boat. They tied a rope around the mast. The crew went on the rope to the shore. They all went. The captain was last. When they were all safe they made a fire. Before they knew it they saw Henry Squirrell waving to them but then he disappeared.

So that’s how Huria saved the day and her name is still famous.

How the Kiwi Lost its Wings

Long ago Kiwi was struggling to find his home. On the way he found himself facing his friend the Grey Warbler. The Grey Warbler said, “Oh Kiwi. Do you wish you had wings like mine?” “No, because we already had those once,” said Kiwi. “Oh Kiwi , could we hear the story?” said the Grey Warbler. “O.K",said Kiwi. The Grey Warbler called the other birds.

Once upon a time Tane Mahuta, the God of the forest had birds. All their feathers were bright and beautiful. But one day a plague came. So Tane Mahuta asked Cuckoo to live on the floor but Cuckoo said, “No, because I’m too busy building a nest.” So Tane Mahuta asked Morepork and Morepork said “No thanks, because I love the light and cannot leave.” So Tane Mahuta asked Tui. He said, “I’m too scared to go down there. I don’t know what predators I will meet.” So he asked Kiwi. Kiwi loved the floors of the forest so Kiwi said, “Yes.”

Then Tane Mahuta turned to the other birds and said, “Cuckoo. Selfish Cuckoo,” that she would not save the forest. Instead she’d make her nest. “From now on you will lay your eggs in other birds’ nests and they will just frown at you.” “And Pukeko, so proud with your beautiful feathers and don’t like your feet getting dirty. From now on you will live in the swamp all by yourself.” “And Tui, scared Tui. For your punishment you will wear the signal of sadness, the white feather.” “Now Morepork, you little selfish bird. You will now come and stay asleep at day and awake at night.” “And Kiwi, brave Kiwi,” then he turned to the others and said, “I will punish you all. No one will sing ever again. But then he heard an instant crying so he looked up and saw the bellbird. He said, “You have touched my heart and I am sorry. From now on when the sun hits the bush you can sing.

So that’s how the kiwi lost its wings.

Tramping Around Akaroa

In the holiday I went to Akaroa. On the first night I stayed at Maddy's hut. It was so cool when we went to the Akaroa School. We went to the school plagrownd. We went on
the maple pole. In the morning we went to fier and Ice shop. I got two sparkly stonse. Here is the man part of the banks traks.

Children's Rights

I think every child should have equal rights like us but they do not have equal rights. All poor families should have an education. Every child should have medical care. Every child deserves a quality life.

We have been learning about the children of Kroo Bay. Kroo Bay is a slum community in Africa. I think that poor families should have stable houses. In Kroo Bay they just make their houses out of anything they find. When it floods their houses get flooded so they have to move out.

In Kroo Bay children die of malaria. When pigs eat rubbish and the next day a child comes and has to kill the pig and have it for dinner, the whole family gets sick. I think that every poor child needs medical care. I know that people in Kroo Bay can’t afford medicine.

Save the Children helps poor children in countries all over the world. I wish that I could buy a mosquito net. So please can you buy a mosquito net. Children really need one.

Safera’s Adventures

One day there was a dragon called Safera. She loved adventures. Safera was in a field of birds. She loved chasing birds but after a while Safera was bored of chasing birds so she flew along. Then she found a field full of strawberries; all red and juicy. Safera’s ears pricked up and her tummy rumbled. She was licking her chops. Straight away she dived in the patch of strawberries. Soon she was so full so she stopped eating all the strawberries. Next she went plodding along the track because she was too big to fly. She found a pretty paddock of flowers. She pounced into the patch of pretty flowers and smelt the flowers. Oh no! She forgot she was allergic to flowers. The patch of flowers was very close to the castle but nobody could stop Safera. She sniffed the flowers then, “Ah – atishooooooo! Atchooo, Atchoooo”
The castle was on fire so Safera was afraid. After a while the fire was out. The king said that there were two farms on fire as well. The king was looking out the window. He saw something red and blue. It was a dragon. The dragon was terrified and the dragon was never coming out. The king thought it was OK but the dragon never came out so the king came up to the cave, He gulped and then he said, “Dragon! Come out! There’s nothing to worry about.”
Safera burnt the king so the family of dragons had king dinner.
